Kay, going to try to make this short.
1) Reduced gap in damage between tiers.
The damage difference between a Standard Sniper Rifle and a Prototype is 20 damage, while the difference between a Prototype Sniper Rifle and a Thale's is 123. Suffice to say, the Officer Sniper Rifles are basically just a cannon compared to a handgun and if you have to choose between them, you're always going to go with the Thales.
2) Range and Damage need to follow the same design spectrum as every other weapon in the game.
How does it make any sense for a Tactical Sniper Rifle with a 300m range to do 221 damage .... but a Thale's has a 450m range with 373 damage...?
Sniper Rifles should follow the same damage/range design philosophy as everything else in the game. The longer the range, the less damage it does. If we give lower range rifles the higher damage then we force true-snipers into engagement range and redline snipers are much less viable - reduced down mostly to a nuisance/irritant than a lethal force.
3) Kill the sway.
The Sniper Rifle is the only weapon in the game in which you have to worry about sway and a big hinderance on 'combat snipers' is mobility; having to crouch and steady the weapon in the middle of combat. It's a lot to ask of someone to be precise (aligning a single pixel on top of another pixel) but to do so while being completely immobile is punishingly difficult.
4) Roden needs to be more accessible.
Highest damage with a single shot in the magazine that focuses on precision and accuracy, which would be great if it were more accessible. You can't trade it, you can't get it on the market, and the only way to actually get it is through salvage. It's rarity makes it unlikely to be used for fear of losing it, compared to the Thales which is better all around (except damage) and has much higher availability.

Allow me to address 1-3: yes.
Allow me to address 4: why wasn't the roden placed on tge market as the sentinel killing rifle?
If you had given me half a second to explain it this way instead of jumping straight to:
"Sentinels are supposed to be tanks, I don't give a **** that that offends you. get a roden" and "You refuse to accept a counterpoint Aeon, I don't feel the need to debate with someone who interprets disagreement as attack" on Skype....
.... that conversation would have gone down about x10 better.....

About as rare as SKINs though. I have two Rodens in my inventory and I empty my experimental lab on the daily.

Nicely done Aeon. Were you listening when you were asked to keep tge contents of that channel private? Or did you not consider that important?
Was never asked, nor told, not to disclose contents of a super secret Skype channel and never mentioned that those quotes came from a super secret Skype channel, let alone that that I didn't just make them up, but yanno.

As if you give a sh!t about the community or balance... so long as you can sit on millions of ISK and farm new players...
It's getting old, watching a piece of sh!t like you pretend they care. Knock it off already.
You should really squad up with me. I don't know who you are, so I don't expect you to know who I am, and likewise I don't expect you to know anything about me. What I am willing to do however is run with you for a few days and hear what your concerns are so we can address this misconception you have. Take a look at some of my links in my signature, go through my post history, you'll find that I do put this community as my first priority.
But as I said - don't let my forum activity be the guide there. Squad up with me in-game and we'll hash out your concerns personally. You down?

Hello friends, This is an example of a little something that grinds my gears. I'm not going to even go deeper into using absolute terms like, "this is what they should be" and "this is what needs to be done" while giving an over simplified solution and expecting that to be enough. But, what I don't appreciate is treating a situation like this as an equation that needs to be balanced. To me personally it seems like it's coming more from your own personal preferences and comfort rather then trying to make a good game. Now this doesn't look bad on paper but practically I believe a higher tier sniper should be a significantly better sniper. Sacrificing one attribute to increase the other (even if it's equal) doesn't mean it has the same effectiveness now as it did before. Officer gear is officer gear and if it's going to be judged by the same standards as normal gear then it should just as available as normal gear. Of course the game needs balancing, and not one single person knows what needs to be done to balance it. Giving ideas is all good and well, but frankly much of the community act like they've been endowed with arcane knowledge. Now I hope there is a lot more to this "fix" then what you've mentioned. If so, state all of it, otherwise speak as though it's incomplete. All that said, I've never been one to be taken seriously so go ahead and move along and disregard my words if you like. I just stopped by and remembered how much I dislike a gaming community that sound like they are know-it-all teens talking back to their parents. Good day, and keep it classy
Feel free to weigh on your own proposals. These suggestions were made to address several concerns, primarily redline sniping. A career sniper wouldn't need to rely on high base damage for long range if he's landing headshots, so the lower damage at longer ranges would deter redliners without infringing too much on career snipers (barring the obvious difficulty of actually landing those shots which I keep trying to explain to people).
The second thing is that the difference between the Officer Sniper Rifle and the Prototype Sniper Rifle is extreme and is unique in that way save for perhaps the Plasma Cannon (which gets two shots instead of one). The difference is about a 150% the damage of normal, which if you compare other officer weaponry is a much larger difference (the Balacs versus the Duvolle, for instance, is 115%). Combine this with a much higher range and the only way to counter a Thale's is with another Thale's, more times than not.
Don't get me wrong, an officer grade weapon should be powerful, but we're talking a whole other league of powerful here.
What are your suggestions, if you disagree?

About sniper rifle, it needs dmg buff (std to pro), sway changes and zoom changes. Zoom is bad. Two zooming options (mid&far) would be great.
Good ideas tho. But the part with dmg fall off. It wouldn't work too well (if done poorly).
Damage falloff..?

I don't understand where damage falloff is coming from, is why I'm asking.

Reallusion GrimSleeper wrote:I don't know why they introduce a good thing then F* it up. The Roden was PERFECT doing 555 damage. It had a REASON for being 1 shot. rewarding those who can aim, penalizing those who can't. You pull the trigger, it should sound like a cannon with a thicker smoke and ******** recoil so people know exactly where it came from. Why? So you have to shoot and move cause you WILL be hunted. When you shoot a Roden people should know.. WOAH... somebody just shot a f'n Roden.
It was basically the only gun that could hurt HEAVIES in a true sniper way. When in the military, who was I aiming for? the OFFICERS. The people that gave the orders or could harm us the most whether directly or indirectly. Doesn't matter what kind of armor you had on, a headshot is a headshot. 1 shot = 1 kill.
Nerfing it was ridiculous, but at least it was still decent in the 400 damage range. Now it's down to being 1 damage more than a Thales, but still 1 shot before reload? wtf? It was a prized sought after weapon that went to being pure trash. It's like you get excited because finally something in particular was done RIGHT, like YYEEAAAAHHHHHHHHH... then it's taken from you with no warning, like... sooooooo what happened?
To clarify, the Roden Sniper Rifle deals 450 damage, 77 more than the Thales.
